Syracuse, NY-The Syracuse Silver Knights have acquired former MISL Most Valuable Player Jamar Beasley and Bryan Perez from the Wichita Wings in a trade completed on Wednesday. In return, the Wings will receive Andre Berenzon and Matt Clare.
The brother of U.S. Men’s National team legend DaMarcus Beasley, Jamar Beasley has played professionally since 1998 when he became the youngest player to sign in the MLS after joining the New England Revolution directly out of high school.
Beasley, known for his blazing-fast speed, recorded seven goals and eight assists in 59 appearances in Major League Soccer between 1998 and 2001. Since then he has become one of the MISL’s most prolific offensive weapons, most recently scoring 55 points in 22 games last season as the Wichita Wings’ leading scorer. Beasley was named MISL Rookie of the Year in 2003 when he became part of the league with the Kansas City Comets, and went on to earn the prestigious award of MISL MVP in 2006-2007 with the Detroit Ignition, helping the team to the league’s best record as he led the league in scoring.
In 2010-2011, Beasley again earned All-MISL honors as a member of the Missouri Comets when he finished third in the league in scoring with 54 points. In 2008, Jamar represented the United States as a member of the U.S. National Futsal Team at the World Cup in Brazil.
Bryan Perez arrives in Syracuse after finishing second on the Wings in scoring a season ago with 38 points in 22 games. The 24-year-old Costa Rican notched five points in the Wings’ first five games this season. Perez spent this past summer representing the U.S. National Futsal Team as the competed in CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying.
The Silver Knights are home this weekend at the Oncenter War Memorial Arena. The team takes on the Missouri Comets this Friday, November 30th at 7:30pm and Sunday, December 2nd at 4:00pm against the Rochester Lancers. Sunday's match will be an Orange & Blue game to benefit the Crouse Health Foundation. Special event player jerseys will be auctioned immediately following the game.
